George Pratt is a fully qualified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon practising in Melbourne Victoria. George was awarded his medical degree from the University of Western Australia in 2003 and began his career at Royal Perth Hospital where he received the Goatcher Award for most outstanding Intern in 2004. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy in 2007 (UWA).
George worked as a junior doctor in many fields before commencing specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012. George completed the Fellowship examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016 and was admitted as Fellow of the College.
He currently practises as a Consultant Surgeon at Monash Health, Peninsula Health and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and sees private patients at Epworth Richmond and Peninsula Private Hospital. When he isn’t operating, George is passionate about surgical research and education, Melbourne’s foodie scene and riding his bike.
I am passionate about providing the highest quality surgical care for my patients in a compassionate and understanding environment. Whilst I am committed to high standards and delivering consistent outcomes for my patients, I know that being a good surgeon goes beyond the technical. Having been on the other side of the knife myself and having lost a parent to cancer at a young age, I understand how important it is for patients to be heard and have their specific concerns and worries addressed. I do not provide a one size fits all service but rather take the time to get to know you and your specific needs.
Perhaps this is best summarised by quoting Gaspare Tagliacozzi, (1545) the father of plastic surgery:
"We restore, rebuild, and make whole those parts which nature hath given, but which fortune hath taken away. Not so much that it may delight the eye, but that it might buoy up the spirit, and help the mind of the afflicted "
Dr Pratt is a fully qualified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This is an important distinction because in Australia not all doctors performing surgeries have undertaken the same formal training in surgery. Surprising as it may be, any doctor in Australia can undertake operations legally, although the ethics of this practice is often more questionable. Many cosmetic surgeons performing invasive operations have had little or no formal hospital based surgical training. Dr Pratt has undertaken 10 years of hospital based surgical training and multiple highly competitive examination processes. Whilst a surgeon of lesser training may be able to perform surgeries when everything is going smoothly, you are better off with a fully qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon for the following reasons:
• Better trained to manage unusual or complex cases
• Better equipped to help you through any complications you may experience
• Admitting rights to public and private hospitals should you have a serious complication
• True lifelong dedication to the craft
